Elmiron Lawsuit Attorney

Dubo Law’s attorneys are currently examining claims from anyone who took Elmiron and was diagnosed with maculopathy.

The Elmiron Eye Disease Litigation

Since 1996, Elmiron has been prescribed to millions of patients to treat interstitial cystitis (IC), also known as painful bladder syndrome. In 2015, the researchers discovered a potential link between the drug and a severe eye condition called maculopathy. Even though the evidence increased, Janssen Pharmaceuticals failed to inform the public about the risks of using their product but has continued to produce and distribute Elmiron.

Patients diagnosed with IC are typically prescribed 300 milligram daily doses of the drug, while more serious cases may require 800 or even 1500 milligrams. For that reason, millions of people receiving this treatment may be at risk of losing their vision, while some of them may have already suffered serious health consequences.

An Unknown Risk

The potential risks of taking Elmiron were not known until 2015 when doctors at Atlanta’s Emory Eye Center encountered an eye condition they had never seen before. Six women were diagnosed with maculopathy, but the cause was unclear until further investigation and research discovered that all the women had been taking Elmiron for several years.

Studies released in 2018 and 2019 further buttressed the link between Elmiron and maculopathy. However, what is not yet known is how Elmiron impacts the onset of this condition.

Despite the evidence that proves the connection between Elmiron and maculopathy, the manufacturer still doesn’t list eye condition as one of the possible side effects. It is not known how many people have already developed a severe eye condition upon using Elmiron. And not to mention hundreds of thousands of patients who are at risk.
