A few weeks ago, I represented a client at trial in a very difficult and time-consuming case which involved a factual dispute regarding how the accident happened. There was a lof of pre-trial strategy between the defense attorney and me which continued through trial all the way through jury instructions prior to the closing argument. I knew contributory negligence was going to be a major issue and I was doing everything I could do keep it out of the jury instructions and off the verdict sheet, so that the only question would be whether the defendant was at fault for the accident. Unfortunately, the Judge included a contributory negligence instruction and the jury ultimately found that both drivers were at fault for the accident.
Walking out of the courtroom, my still very disappointed client stopped in the hallway, gave me a hug and told me that even though it didn’t turn out the way we wanted, he appreciated the fact that I fought for him and left no stone unturned in trying to get the best possible result.
Stories like this mean almost as much to me as the trial success stories because they speak to a greater issue – what are clients looking for when they hire an attorney? In personal injury cases, it is axiomatic that when I am speaking to a prospective client, it is because something bad has happened and they are looking for not only for legal guidance, but some level of assurance that their case will be in good hands if they retain Dubo Law. And while I can tell them all I want about how much we care and how client centered our approach is, none of that matters as much as referrals or endorsements from current or former clients.
There is not a week that goes by where I don’t get a phone call from a new client who says they called us either because they were referred to us directly by a former client who raved about Dubo Law, or because they had read our online reviews from former clients and loved the fact that we clearly placed the interests of our clients above anything and everything else. Law firms and other businesses invest thousands (and in some cases millions) of dollars on advertising and marketing, but in truth, the best marketing will always be doing good work and getting great results because that leads to happy clients which, in turn, leads to more clients and so on. Having former clients as ambassadors for your brand is incalculable value.
One of our operating philosophies here is that once we take a case, we make no distinction based on the size of the case in terms of how it is handled. All of our clients are treated equally and each case – big or small – gets the full amount of required attention. Whatever it takes. That is part of our culture and it is ingrained in all of our employees and staff because that is how I have always practiced law.
That is one of the reasons why we are continuing to grow and thrive and why this month has been our biggest month ever both in terms of new cases and settlements. And also why I fully anticipate that growth to continue.
You can learn more about our firm culture and approach in this video which explains why other personal injury attorneys send their family members and friends to us when they need quality legal representation. And there is no higher compliment or endorsement than that.
